Haiti Resource Page
On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at 04:53:10 pm, a category 7 earthquake hit the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, changing the lives of millions of Haitians instantaneously. Countless thousands died, and hundreds of thousands more are homeless and displaced. Across the wall of the world, time stopped as people came together asking how they could help Haiti deal with this devastating tragedy.
As a Haitian American, I feel acutely the pangs of loss and fear, sadness, resignation and hope of the Haitian people. Like many, I feel powerless in the face of such devastation and need. And also like many, I am attempting to do my small part in hopes that it will have some effect. I want the people of Haiti to know that they are not alone. We will not forget.
As those terrible first moments of confronting loss are gone, a new question arises: "What Next?" How does Haiti move out of the rubble? I have been pondering that question for weeks. Is this truly the moment in which everything changes for Haiti? After all, life as we knew it has ceased to exist. Is it possible to create something anew?
These pages will serve as a resource of information on Haiti as I and others explore this question.
